The ENABLE Youth Program Uganda is in its monitoring and business development phase of implementation. This program phase comprises activities under the three broad themes of joint monitoring, joint business development service provision and capacity building for the Ministry of Water and Environment officials and the District local government officials all aimed at achieving program ownership and sustainability.
To implement the program, the selected agripreneurs underwent training through which their business management skills were honed, they received mentoring and coaching, and developed their products at the incubation center in Makerere University. Out of the training program, they developed their business plans and pitched to the investment committee requesting for funding to scale up their businesses.
20 from Mubuku, 16 from Doho, 26 from Ngenge, 24 from Tochi and 17 from Wadelai irrigation scheme catchment areas. The Funds for three regions have already been disbursed including, Mubuku, Doho and Ngenge Catchments areas. The disbursement proceedings commenced after all the loan disbursement documentation was prepared and signed by the relevant stakeholders. Each of the agripreneurs provided accounts information for their supplier (according to the submitted invoices) and their own accounts. This was done because the funds for equipment were disbursed directly to the supplier while the funds for operating capital were disbursed to the agriprenuer’s accounts. The funds were then disbursed to the suppliers and to the agripreneurs’ accounts. Apart from a few cases of errors in the account information and two cases where the disbursement was deferred, most of the agripreneurs and their suppliers have received the funds for their business.
Funds for the Mubuku irrigation scheme catchment area were disbursed in November, 2019; for the Ngenge irrigation scheme catchment area in December 2019; and for the Doho irrigation scheme catchment area were disbursed in January 2020. The disbursement of funds enabled the agripreneurs to implement the business ideas presented in their business plans and pitched to the investment committee.
